The 6th Annual Georgia Tech VIP Innovation Competition will be split into two rounds: the winners of the Showcase poster and demo fair in the Fall semester will advance to the Finals in the Spring semester. Finals consist of teams presenting a 6 minute video about their project to a live panel of industry judges. Teams may participate in the Innovation Showcase without participating in the Innovation Competition (e.g. to showcase works in progress) and multiple presentations per VIP team are allowed (e.g. presentations from multiple subteams). The VIP Innovation Showcase for the 2022-23 academic year is scheduled for October 27th from 5-7 pm in the Environmental Science and Technology Building atrium. Read below to find out more details about the showcase and competition.
Fall 2022: VIP Innovation Showcase (Round 1)
The VIP Innovation Showcase for Fall 2022 will take place on October 27th from 5-7pm in the Environmental Science and Technology Building atrium. At the Innovation Showcase, students give short poster presentations or demonstrations of the projects their VIP teams are working on. While multiple subteams can present at the Showcase, only one presentation per VIP Team may participate in the competition. If participating in the competition, projects will be judged by a panel of industry judges with specialties in areas relevant to those teams. Judges will select a winner for each of those categories, and that winnning team will advance to the second round of the competition. The VIP team assigns categories based on entries each year. Past judging categories have included:
- Hardware and Devices
- Software and Apps
- Systems, People, and Environment
NOTE: Teams may participate in the Innovation Showcase without participating in the Innovation Competition. Teams may indicate on the registration form whether they would like to participate in the competition.
Spring 2023: Finals (Round 2)
For the second round of the GT Innovation Competition, winners from all categories of the VIP Innovation Showcase will be invited to create 6 minute videos about their projects, present them live to a panel of industry judges, and answer questions about their projects. The judging panel will select an overall winner from this pool and that team will advance to compete against VIP teams from all over the world in the International VIP Innovation Competition.
