Equity Research Boutique

2022 ~ Present | Financial Services Innovation Lab and Speedwell Foundation

Goals

Create a student team that functions like an Atlanta based sell-side equity research boutique that analyzes stocks utilizing fundamental methods. The research will initially focus on transportations stocks, including airlines, railroads, trucking and small packages, and others. The team will develop relationships with local corporations and investment firms.

As the project progresses, students may have opportunities to host investment meetings in Atlanta. Students that have performed exceptionally well throughout the project may be selected after a few terms to travel to New York City to interact with sell-side firms on Wall Street as a capstone experience.

Atlanta is the source of a wealth of corporate activity, especially in the transportation area, e.g. UPS, Norfolk Southern, Delta. A GT-based sell-side research boutique would analyze and publish research initially on transportation companies with a focus on the local transportation firms. This research would then be distributed to investment firms and the investing community. Investor meetings highlighting the presentation of this research would be organized.

New technology would be investigated as tools for performing the research and distributing conclusions.

Issues Involved or Addressed

Fundamental equity analysis including valuing companies on the basis of the Net Present Value of future cash flows. Analysis of macro events and their effect on the transportation area. Publish and distribute concise, but well researched, investment reports.
