VIP is offered at the sophomore, junior, senior and graduate student levels. Sophomores are limited to 1 credit per semester. Juniors and seniors can choose between 1 and 2 credits. Three-credit sections are avaialble in special cases (not included in the table below), and are typically limited to students in their 3rd semester of VIP.
Course Numbers
The first digit in the course number represents student level, with 2000-level courses for sophomores, 3000-level courses for juniors, etc. The last digit represents the number of credits. A zero-credit course is offered for students who are paid by their instructors, with the zero-credit course showing up as a 1-credit audit course on their transcripts.
Section Numbers
VIP teams include a mix of sohpmores, juniors, seniors and graduate students, as well as a mix of 1 and 2-credit hour students. This means each team can have students enrolled in five or more course numbers. The teams are differentaited in Banner by section number, with the same section number used across all course numbers for a given team. The section number is the key identifier for each team, and it stays the same from semester-to-semester.

Course Creation in Banner
Banner is Georgia Tech's integrated student and course informatin system. VIP courses are created in Banner by schedulers in instructors' home departments with a minimum of five sections per team (1 course for sophomores, 2 for juniors, and 3 for seniors). Each semester, the VIP Program sends schedulers in each department lists of VIP instructors from their department, so that department schedulers can create VIP sections for their instructors from their departments.
